Karina is a London-based contemporary Sashiko & Boro artist with Japanese and Welsh roots. With a background in costume design and fashion styling, she has worked in theatre, fashion and editorial, always drawn to the visual language of history, culture and identity.

A period of pause led her to explore Sashiko and Boro, traditional Japanese hand-sewing techniques originally used to reinforce and repair clothing. Drawing on her past experiences, Karina's practice soon expanded beyond textiles, as she began experimenting with natural elements such as fallen leaves, wood, and stones, merging the organic with hand stitch to create pieces that pay attention to the overlooked.

It is this same attention that draws her to new subjects, always looking for something unusual to sew, always drawn to experimenting with texture on unexpected materials and surfaces. She also believes hand sewing is a quiet act of resistance, stitch by stitch, a refusal to let go of the small things in a fast-paced world.
